Description

1/6th Plate Tintype of Confederate Soldier Charles Haley with Bavarian Musket

CON 337 1/6th plate tintype measuring 3 ¼” by 2 ¼” of a young man seated in civilian clothing. He is posed with a Bavarian Model 1842 musket, distinguished by the unique shape of the front barrel band and percussion bolster. Adhered to the back of the image is an old piece of tape with the identification “Charles Haley.” Given the nature of his dress and his obsolete imported weapon, it is likely that the young man is a Confederate soldier. Records indicate nine Charles Haleys that served in the Confederate Army. The image has some bends but retains sharp details. A fine, potentially Confederate image showing a scarce Civil War longarm.
