1842 Pattern French Import Bayonet 

This French-import Model 1842 socket bayonet retains an attractive gray patina throughout, heavily peppered with darker age spots that give it a pleasing untouched appearance. The three-sided blade is the early pattern with pronounced shoulders at the base and measures approximately 13½ inches in length.

The flat area at the base of the blade, just below the socket, is stamped “8 DC 92.” The socket is additionally marked with the number “3” near the front and bears the number “4505” closer to the locking ring. The bayonet retains its original locking ring, although the locking screw is no longer present.

An indistinct maker’s mark can be found on the bar connecting the socket to the blade. The bayonet displays honest age and use while remaining a desirable example of an early French-import bayonet associated with the U.S. Model 1842 musket.
