1864 Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson Presidential Campaign Ballot – Republican Ticket

 

Original Civil War-era Republican Party election ballot from the pivotal 1864 presidential election featuring Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President. Printed on thin period paper, this striking “Republican Ticket” ballot lists Lincoln and Johnson prominently beneath an eagle vignette, along with Iowa state and local Republican candidates.

 

The ballot includes presidential electors and notable political figures of the era including William B. Allison, who would later become one of Iowa’s most influential United States Senators. The lower portion retains blank spaces for township and local offices, while the footer is marked “McGregor News Print,” tying the piece to McGregor, Iowa.

 

An outstanding survivor from one of the most consequential elections in American history, held during the height of the Civil War as Lincoln sought reelection while preserving the Union. Original campaign ballots of this type were intended for actual use at the polls and were often discarded after Election Day, making surviving examples increasingly scarce.

 

Condition is very good overall with expected fold lines, minor edge wear, light toning, and period pencil notations to the reverse. A highly displayable and historic Lincoln campaign item ideal for Civil War, political, or Lincoln collections.
