Description
1906 G.A.R. Indiana Department Badge – 27th Annual Encampment, Lafayette
Beautiful original Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Department of Indiana delegate badge from the 27th Annual Encampment, held in Lafayette, Indiana, May 22–24, 1906.
The gilt badge features a spread-winged eagle with “Lafayette” in relief, suspended above the bold enameled G.A.R. letters in red, white, and blue. Below is a finely detailed depiction of the Entrance to the Soldiers Home, framed by the inscription “On the Banks and Center of the Wabash” — a reference to Lafayette’s storied Civil War heritage.
The reverse retains its original clasp and bright gilt finish. A striking example of early 20th-century veteran commemoration craftsmanship, issued to Union veterans nearly 40 years after the war’s end.
A handsome and highly detailed Indiana G.A.R. encampment badge—celebrating the enduring legacy of Union veterans in the early 1900s.
Comes housed in a display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
