Description
Battery F, 3rd Field Artillery U.S. Army – Gettysburg War Maneuvers Tag, July 1910
Original baggage tag from Battery F, 3rd Field Artillery, U.S. Army, issued for the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania War Maneuvers of July 1910. This shield-shaped tag is struck in nickel-plated brass and retains its original black leather strap and buckle.
The 1910 maneuvers at Gettysburg brought together active U.S. Army units to conduct large-scale training exercises on the same fields where the Civil War battle had been fought nearly fifty years earlier. These events were both tactical exercises and public commemorations, drawing national attention and veteran participation.
The tag remains crisply stamped:
BATTERY F / 3rd FIELD ART’Y / U.S. ARMY / WAR MANEUVERS / GETTYSBURG, PA. / JULY 1910
A fine and uncommon Gettysburg-related artifact, bridging the post–Civil War era with the modern U.S. Army—representing one of the earliest 20th-century military training events held on the storied battlefield.
