Battle Damaged Scabbard

 

Unique cavalry relic of war. This scabbard was issued with the model 1860 light cavalry saber.  The bottom having been struck by shrapnel or Minie ball, tearing the bottom section off and creating an indent as well.  The saber as likely drawn at the time, although the scabbard will still accept a blade all the way to the hilt with the damage.  There is a remnant of an old museum tag just below the throat of the scabbard, the writing is no longer present.  Nice example of a battle-damaged relic!
