Belgian Lefaucheux Model 1854 11mm Pinfire Revolver

An attractive and mechanically functional Belgian Lefaucheux Model 1854 11mm pinfire revolver, manufactured in Liège during the American Civil War era. Designed by Eugène Lefaucheux, this iconic revolver represents one of the earliest successful cartridge handguns and was widely carried throughout Europe and saw limited importation into the United States during the Civil War. Similar Lefaucheux pinfire revolvers were privately purchased by Confederate officers, and a presentation example was famously given to General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.

This example retains a pleasing silver-gray patina with scattered areas of darker age toning. The cylinder exhibits heavier, evenly distributed peppering while preserving a visible Belgian inspector’s stamp consisting of a tiny fleur-de-lis over the letter “L.” The revolver features a 6⅛-inch barrel, including a 4¾-inch round barrel section, with numerous crisp Belgian proof and inspection marks throughout.

The left side of the barrel is marked “E. Lefaucheux Bté.” The left side of the frame is serial numbered 35277, while additional Belgian inspection marks include a crown over “Y”, “ELG” proof, crown over “L”, and the assembler’s initials “JB.” These markings attest to its manufacture and inspection at the famed Liège proof house.

Mechanically, the revolver remains in excellent working order. The loading gate, loading gate latch, ejector rod, and action all function smoothly, with the cylinder indexing and locking properly. The revolver retains its desirable flared trigger guard and original pivoting lanyard ring mounted to the butt. Both original walnut grips remain intact with only light handling marks and minor dings consistent with age and careful use.

Complete with its original components and exhibiting strong mechanical integrity, this is an excellent example of one of the most influential cartridge revolvers of the 19th century. Its association with the American Civil War, combined with its connection to General Stonewall Jackson’s well-known Lefaucheux presentation revolver, makes it a highly desirable addition to any advanced Civil War or early cartridge firearm collection.
