Description
Cased Pair of English Percussion Pistols with
Fish-Scale Grips
Attractive mid-19th century English cased pair of percussion traveling pistols housed in their original mahogany case with red baize lining. The pistols feature engraved bar-action locks with foliate scrollwork, octagonal barrels, and finely checkered fish-scale walnut grips with rounded butts. The metal surfaces retain a pleasing, even patina with crisp engraving and well-defined hammers, exhibiting careful use and preservation.
The fitted case remains very clean and retains its proper accessories, including brass powder flask, cleaning rod, bullet mold, oil bottle, turn-screw, and related tools. The interior paper label for Hammond Bros., 40 Jewry Street, Winchester, is a later turn-of-the-century replacement, though appropriate to a known English retailer. A handsome and complete Victorian-era gentleman’s traveling set that displays exceptionally well.
