Chancellorsville Relic Group

Marked Eagle Breast Plate (“W.H. Smith, Brooklyn”), Match Safe, Bullets & Eagle Button (Recovered March 1988)

A highly appealing Chancellorsville Battlefield relic grouping, recovered near Mineral Spring Road in March of 1988. This set includes multiple classic Federal items from the field, anchored by a desirable maker-marked eagle breast plate.

Includes:

Federal Eagle Breast Plate – Marked “W.H. SMITH / BROOKLYN”

A strong dug example with a well-defined spread-wing eagle on the face and both original iron hooks remaining on the back. The reverse retains both hooks and  the rarely encountered stamped maker’s mark: W. H. SMITH \ BROOKLYN

W.H. Smith was a prominent New York–based contractor supplying accoutrement plates to the Union Army. Maker-marked plates are significantly scarcer in dug condition, especially when recovered with both hooks intact.

Match Safe (Dug) – An excavated match safe with an eagle, showing excellent detail and a rich, untouched patina.

Two 3 ring union bullets

Eagle Cuff Button – A small excavated button with nice surface detail.

This is a highly desirable, maker-marked eagle plate grouping from one of the most dramatic battlefields of the Eastern Theater. A perfect addition to any Chancellorsville or Army of the Potomac relic collection.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
