Civil War Aloe Container

 

Aloe has been used as a healing agent for centuries.  This rare civil war era cylindrical container with lid meas. approx. 5.00 inches tall x 4.00 inches across. Can has a smooth flat bottom with surface rust throughout. There are no dents. Lid can be removed. One side of the can bears the original period paper label that reads “POWD.BARB ALOES” above “SMITH, KLINE &CO. PHILADELPHIA.” This label is pasted over another period label which describes how to use the contents. Opening the can reveals clods of Aloe with another period product label.
