Description
Civil War Camp-Excavated Utility Bottle
Attractive aqua/blue-green glass bottle recovered from a documented Civil War campsite. Free-blown with a tooled lip and smooth base, typical of mid-19th century American manufacture (circa 1855–1865). The cylindrical form with rounded shoulders suggests use as a medicinal, ink, or small spirits bottle—common personal and sutler-issued items found in soldier encampments.
The glass exhibits light surface haze and scattered interior staining consistent with long-term burial, along with minor wear appropriate to excavation.
Such bottles are tangible remnants of daily camp life. A classic and displayable relic representing the material culture of the Civil War soldier.
