Description
Civil War Cigar Case with Original Cigars
A rare surviving mid-19th-century cigar case, beautifully crafted in brass-bound leather with an ornate embossed design and rich red interior lining. The exterior features the word “CIGARS” tooled in gilt with floral scrollwork, while the opposite side bears the faintly visible name “E. Little”, likely the original owner.
Inside are six original period cigars, remarkably intact and showing the tight, hand-rolled construction typical of mid-19th-century examples. Such cases were popular personal accessories among officers and gentlemen during the Civil War era—carried in coat pockets or saddlebags to protect cigars from damage and humidity.
This example is in very good condition for its age, with expected surface wear to the exterior and minor fading to the interior lining, but all structural elements remain sound. An evocative artifact of daily life during the war—combining both elegance and practicality.
