Description

Civil War–Era Apothecary Bottle, “POTASS. BICARB.”

Original hand-blown glass apothecary bottle with intact cork and partial gilt-framed black label reading “POTASS. BICARB.” (Potassium Bicarbonate). Typical of U.S. Hospital department and civilian druggist stock, 1855–1865. The chemical was widely used as an antacid and alkaline compound by military surgeons and pharmacists during the Civil War. Excellent clear glass with slight imperfections and air bubbles, indicative of mid 19th century manufacture.
