Crookes & Crookes Brothers, Sheffield – Bone-Handled Straight Razor, Civil War Era
A fine Civil War–period straight razor manufactured by the renowned Crookes & Crookes Brothers of Sheffield, England. The blade retains excellent polish and crisp maker’s markings, with no chips or cracks, showing only light age toning. The original bone handles remain intact and well-preserved, exhibiting a pleasing aged patina without splits or warping.
Sheffield cutlers were among the leading producers of personal razors imported into the United States during the mid-19th century. English razors such as this were widely carried by Union and Confederate soldiers alike, as shaving gear was considered an essential part of a soldier’s personal kit.
This example is in excellent condition and a nice example soldier’s field gear with the added flair of the bone.
