Description
Civil War Era Folding Cup with Japanned Tin Case
Civil War soldier’s collapsible pewter cup in a jappaned tin case. It has a diameter of 2 ½” and when opened 2 ¾” high. These cups were very popular during the Civil War, mainly because of their size which made it easy to carry in a pocket, haversack, or backpack. In Time/Life Echoes of Glory – Arms and Equipment of the Union and The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord, there are examples of this cup.
The cup remains in very nice condition, only having very light rubs on the edges of the tin case from use, it easily opens and closes. A great piece to display with a soldier’s personal effects.
