Description
Civil War-Era Meerschaum Pipe with Wicker Bowl
Complete with Briarwood Stem, and Horn Mouthpiece
An attractive mid-19th century smoking pipe, popularly known as a “Micha” style, featuring a finely woven wicker-covered bowl with evident charring from period use. The pipe is fitted with a polished briarwood stem extending to a curved horn mouthpiece, a combination typical of higher-quality examples of the period. The wickerwork not only provided a decorative finish but also acted as insulation against the heat of the bowl, making it both practical and visually distinctive.
Such pipes were widely favored during the Civil War era and are often associated with soldiers’ camp life, offering a glimpse into the daily habits and comforts carried into the field. Length: 12 inches. Condition: Very good, with light wear from use, stable wickerwork, and a well-aged patina to the briar stem and horn mouthpiece.
