Civil War Era Self-Closing Cast Iron Match Safe – Inventory Number: MIS 269 / SOLD Patented Dec 20,1864. D.M. & CO New Haven, CT.  4″ wide x 2-1/2″ deep x 2″ high cast iron hanging match holder with self-closing lid. Embossed lettering on lid reads: Self Closing for Matches, & C. Patented Dec. 20, 1864 D.M. & Co. New Haven. The decorative raised border has two recessed holes for mounting to the wall. The striking pad covers entire base of match holder. The raised nub on the center of the lid allows for the lid to stay closed.   Inventory Number: MIS 269 / SOLD
