Attributed to a soldier originally purchased from Larry Hicklen
A pair of original wooden crutches, typical of those used by wounded soldiers during and after the American Civil War. Each features a shaped underarm rest and long tapering shaft, showing hand craftsmanship and period wear consistent with field or hospital use. Such crutches were often produced by local carpenters or field surgeons when soldiers returned from battle with lasting injuries.
