Civil War Identification Disk

 

Brass Civil War identification disk that would have been privately purchased by a soldier to wear around his neck in the event he was killed on the battlefield. The front bears a patriotic spread winged eagle and shield motif with the words “All Hail Our Countries Freedom-The patriots of 1775.” The disk measures 1” in diameter. The back of this disk appears to have once been stamped with a soldier’s name. Perhaps it was found by a soldier who then sanded it down to be repurposed. An interesting Civil War relic.

Comes housed in a 4 x 5 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
