Description

Civil War Military Locomotive Albumen – Inventory Number: ALB 270 / SOLD Previously unknown view of a battle-damaged Government train which was ambushed by Confederate artillery.  The image measures 5 ½” x 8” and frame is 9” x 11”.  Image features crisp contrast and sharp detail.  Nicely mounted in a gold leaf frame.  The base of the original cardstock mount reads: “U.S. government engine “Fred Leach” and train as they appeared, after being repaired upon the tracks, and ready for removal to the Alexandria repair shop – the rebels had loosened a rail by which the engine was thrown from the tracks – they then fired several cannon shot: three of which passed through the smoke stack dome and tender near Warrenton, Virginia, April 1863”.  Fantastic wartime albumen!   Inventory Number: ALB 270 / SOLD
