Civil War Officer’s Haversack, Identified to Major Alexander S. Marshall, 7th West Virginia Cavalry

 

Rare, identified haversack with painted unit designation, name and saber insignia of the U.S. Cavalry. Housed in a very old museum walnut case with original label.  Includes Marshall’s archive records.  Walnut case measures 20 inches x 21 inches x 4 ½ inches.  Alexander S. Marshall: Enlisted on 11/27/1861 as a 1st Lieutenant. On 11/27/1861 he mustered into Field & Staff WV 7th Infantry He Resigned on 11/22/1862 Promotions: * 1st Lieut 11/27/1861 (1st Lieut & Adjutant).
