Civil War Percussion Cap Tin

 

A fine example of an original Civil War percussion cap tin, marked “U.S. MILITARY MUSKET CAPS / WATERPROOF / INFALLABLE” “100” With panoply of arms.” Container is still sealed and contains 100 percussion caps with flanges for muskets or carbine.  Measures approximately 3/4″ x 2 1/4″.

 

These small tins were issued to soldiers to hold percussion caps — the tiny, explosive primers essential to firing muskets and rifles of the period.
