Civil War Surgeon’s Pocket Kit

Samuel Jackson, Baltimore / Snowden Marked Instruments

Exceptional surgeon’s pocket medical kit, complete with its original red leather folding case and eight surgical instruments housed in fitted loops. Several tools bear maker’s marks including “Samuel Jackson, Baltimore” and “Snowden”, both known American surgical instrument makers active during the Civil War period.

The set includes a variety of scalpels, curved and straight bistouries, probes, tweezers, and other small surgical tools—all featuring shell or horn handles with brass pins. The interior retains its original red leather lining with gilt-trimmed tool straps.

Compact surgeon’s kits like this were essential field tools, carried by army surgeons and contract physicians during the Civil War for amputations, wound probing, and general battlefield procedures.

A highly desirable Civil War-era surgical set representing the critical tools of battlefield medicine.

Comes housed in an 8 x 14 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
