Civil War U.S. Percussion Cap Box – Maker Marked
Nice original example of a Civil War shield front percussion cap box, with Philadelphia maker’s mark on the flap. Both belt loops are present and exhibit signs of distress from use.
These cap boxes were standard issue for Union infantry and cavalry soldiers, designed to carry the percussion caps used to ignite black powder cartridges. The example retains strong form, supple leather, and untouched patina, offering an excellent representative piece of the everyday soldier’s equipment.
