Civil War Whistle Pewter

 

A wonderful early whistle surviving in untouched condition, fashioned from pewter and suspended from its original brass chain. The body features classic lines with a turned finial top and side cut-out sound window. Inside remains the original dried wooden “pea,” a rare and desirable detail that speaks to its authenticity and defies its age.

 

Whistles of this form were commonly carried by military teamsters, guards, railroad men, and civilian watchmen.
