Nice example of an original Colt’s Patent bullet mold designed for the .36 caliber Colt Navy revolver, one of the most iconic sidearms of the American Civil War. The iron mold features clear stamping on the sprue cutter reading “COLT’S / PATENT”, with cavities for both a round ball and conical bullet—standard ammunition for the Colt Model 1851 and 1861 Navy revolvers.

These molds were issued with cased Colt Navy revolvers or sold individually to officers and soldiers wishing to reload their own cartridges in the field. This example shows excellent, untouched patina throughout, with well-defined casting cavities and functional hinge and sprue cutter.

A fine original example of Colt’s patented bullet mold—an indispensable companion to the legendary Navy revolver that armed Union and Confederate officers alike.
