Confederate Sheet Music: Beauregard’s March – 1861
Original Confederate Civil War–era sheet music titled “Beauregard’s March,” dedicated to General P. G. T. Beauregard, C.S.A. The cover features a bold patriotic illustration of crossed Confederate flags, printed in red, white, and blue, a striking example of early-war Southern nationalism.
The march was composed for the piano by Chas. Lenschow and published in Baltimore by Miller & Beacham. The copyright line at the bottom indicates entry according to the Act of Congress in 1861, placing this piece firmly at the opening stage of the Civil War, when Confederate morale and identity were being actively promoted through music and print.
Sheet music such as this was an important medium for spreading political sentiment and honoring Confederate leaders. General Beauregard, commander at Fort Sumter and First Manassas, was one of the most celebrated Southern figures of the early war period, making pieces dedicated to him particularly desirable.
The sheet remains well-presented, with strong graphics and legible text. Frame measures 18 x 15.
