Confederate States of America Five Hundred Dollar Bond With Christopher Memminger – Inventory Number: CUR 035 / SOLD This beautiful $500 Bond Certificate from the Confederate States of America was authorized February 20th, 1863 (CR-124A, B-191). Printed by Evans & Cogswell, Columbia S.C.  It has a vinaigrette of Christopher G. Memminger who was a Lawyer, South Carolina Legislator, as well as Secretary of the Treasury of the Confederate States of America.  This bond is signed by Register of the Confederate Treasury, Charles A. Rose.  Attractively housed in protective sleeve. Total dimensions are about 16″ x 15 1/4″ actual 14″ x 13 1/4″.  Five Twenty dollar coupons remaining.  Number 1417.                      This is a genuine bond that was issued by the Confederate States of America on February 20, 1863 to help pay for the ongoing war against the Federal government. These bonds were issued in several denominations and were all signed, dated and numbered individually.  These coupons represent the payment of 8 percent interest due every six months. These bonds came from the archive of a large bank in England who had backed the Confederacy during the Civil War and many investors lost substantial investments at the end of the war. Christopher Gustavus Memminger was a German-born American politician and a founding father of the Confederate States. As the first Confederate States Secretary of the Treasury, Memminger was the primary author of the economic policies of the Jefferson Davis administration. Inventory Number: CUR 035 / SOLD
