Description

Cooper Firearms Mfg. Co. Percussion Revolver

An attractive example of a Cooper Firearms Mfg. Co. percussion revolver, produced in Frankford, Philadelphia during the mid-19th century. The top of the barrel is clearly stamped: “COOPER FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. FRANKFORD PHILA PA / PAT. JAN. 7 1851, APR. 25 1854, SEP. 22 1863.”
Serial number 7,173 all matching on the cylinder, backstrap and barrel.

This revolver features a brass frame and triggerguard, iron barrel and cylinder, and well-fitted walnut grips retaining a rich aged tone. The metal surfaces show scattered light patches of pitting and smooth gray patina from long storage, while the brass has mellowed to a golden hue. Mechanically, the action and loading lever remain complete.

Cooper revolvers bridged the design gap between Colt and later cartridge models, seeing limited but documented use during the Civil War period by officers and private purchase.

A scarce and well-marked example of a Cooper percussion revolver.
