Eagle Breast Plate Battle of the Wilderness, VA – Inventory Number: BEL 445 / SOLD Excavated eagle breast plate from the Battle of the Wilderness, fought May 5th – 7th of 1864.  The plate has a detailed eagle, the rim is distressed due to lack of lead.  Plate appears to have been in a fire and the lead backer melted free.  During the battle brush fires ignited by the fierce fighting. The flames raged through the undergrowth and burned some wounded soldiers alive, filling the woods with smoke and ghastly cries. Comes housed in 6 inch x 8 inch riker display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.   Inventory Number: BEL 445 / SOLD
