Excavated Griswold Pike Heads — Various Stages of Manufacture
Griswoldville Factory Site
A remarkable group of four original Confederate pike components, all excavated from the grounds of the Griswold & Gunnison factory at Griswoldville, Georgia—the South’s largest revolver manufactory and a known site of emergency pike production during the Confederacy’s desperate final years. These iron pieces represent multiple stages of manufacture, offering a rare glimpse into the improvised weapons program initiated when Southern armories faced crippling shortages of firearms.
Included in the set are:
- An unfinished crossbar/pike guard, roughly forged and never sharpened
- A partially shaped blade, showing early hammer work but lacking final grinding
- A nearly complete pike head with cross-wings, exhibiting the classic Griswold profile
- A forged fragment
Each piece displays the deep black, stable excavation patina expected from long-term burial at this historic industrial site. Collectively, they illustrate the step-by-step evolution of a Confederate pike head—from rough forging to final form—making this an unusually educational and display-ready group.
Griswold pike relics are scarce, and multi-stage examples from the factory itself are even scarcer. This is an ideal addition for collectors focusing on Confederate industry, weapons manufacture, or Griswold & Gunnison material.
Comes housed in 20 x 14 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
