Model 1862 bayonet was specifically manufactured for the Merrill Army Rifle, a firearm known for its limited production and distinctive design. Featuring a ribbed brass hilt and a single-edged steel blade, this bayonet is an exceptionally scarce piece due to the Merrill’s restricted issuance. Used by Union troops during the American Civil War, Merrill rifles and their matching bayonets were prized for their reliability and were often carried by cavalry and specialty units.
