Grand Army of the Republic Cotton Web Belt with “GAR” Plate

 

Tan cotton web veteran’s belt fitted with a rectangular brass plate bearing raised “GAR.” A classic postwar fraternal accoutrement worn by Union veterans in parades and encampments, circa 1870s–1890s. Webbing shows honest age and light fraying; buckle with pleasing patina. Displays well.
