A grouping of original artifacts recovered from the Battle of Antietam, the single bloodiest day in American military history. Fought on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, Antietam marked a pivotal moment in the Civil War, leading to President Lincoln’s issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Contains:
U.S. Oval Belt Plate – Regulation Model 1839 brass enlistedman’s “puppy-paw” pattern belt plate, with a nice earthen patina.
Artillery Case Shot – Two solid lead canister projectiles, the type contained inside artillery shells, devastating against infantry formations.
Three bayonet scabbard finials.
