Grouping of Erwin Van Ness Hitchcock of the 7th Vermont Infantry – Inventory Number: GRO 079 / SOLD Grouping consists of a cased pair of Lieutenants epaulets constructed of gold bullion with great mellow patina, contained in their original formed tin carrying case with newspaper insert on lid. There is a wartime CDV image of Van Ness in excellent condition wearing these exact epaulettes! Also included is an envelope addressed to him while a captain of the 9th Vermont State Militia and letter dated 1867 written to him just before his death at sea, dated 1867. Erwin Van Ness Hitchcock – Residence Pittsford VT; Enlisted on 1/15/1862 as a 1st Lieutenant. On 2/4/1862 he was commissioned into “C” Co. VT 7th Infantry. He Resigned on 6/1/1864. Promotions: Capt 8/28/1862. The 7th saw fighting in Mississippi and Louisiana.  Inventory Number: GRO 079 / SOLD
