Butler of the 44th GA Infantry Constructed with a leather body and tarred leather primary flap with long leather closure tab intact. This secured at the bottom of the bi, this example is mounted with a coarse cotton sling with adjustable brass buckle. The body has a period ink identification “J.W. Butler / A.N.V.” The Captain Butler was from Pike County GA; He enlisted on 3/4/1862 as a 2nd Lieutenant. On 3/4/1862 he was commissioned into “H” Co. GA 44th Infantry.
