Lathe-turned wooden container believed to have been used for storing percussion pistol caps. The cylindrical body, fitted with a snug, removable lid, is closely comparable in form and construction to known wooden match safes recovered from the Arabia shipwreck.

 

This example retains an impressive quantity of approximately 100 original percussion caps, further reinforcing its intended function and period use. The simple yet practical design reflects mid-19th-century craftsmanship, offering both protection from moisture and ease of access in the field.
