Description
Leather Shot Pouch
Original leather shot pouch would have been used in conjunction with a powder flask and muzzle-loading shotgun or rifle. Constructed from thick, hand-stitched leather, the pouch retains its original spout and stopper, showing wonderful age and patina throughout. These pouches were commonly carried by hunters, militiamen, and Civil War soldiers using fowling pieces or smoothbore muskets for both combat and sustenance. Its teardrop shape and compact size allowed it to be easily carried in a pocket or hunting bag, dispensing lead shot one measure at a time. This example remains supple with a rich surface texture, making it ideal for display or period reenactment. Measures approximately 6”.
