Fine matched pair of Civil War infantry officer’s shoulder straps representing the rank of Major. Constructed with classic jaceron wire borders framing a dark blue velvet field, now showing honest period wear to the nap consistent with age and service. The gilt embroidered oak leaf insignia remains well defined, exhibiting pleasing patina and strong relief. The reverse construction is typical of mid-war officer manufacture, with appropriate materials and hand-finished details. A handsome and regulation pair displaying desirable field wear, indicative of actual use rather than storage, and representative of a field-grade infantry officer during the height of the conflict.
