Militia Panel “Star’ Plate – Inventory Number: BEL 305 /  Sold Gilt die-struck rolled brass plate with applied brass tongue, belt loop and keepers.  Believed to have been a product of the Horstmann company, Examples have been excavated on Civil War sites.  This attractive plate was said to have been used by Mississippi, Texas and even Maine troops who symbolized their states with the use of the star.  Regardless of affiliation, this remains one of the most attractive plates in the war, with this example being one of the best we’ve encountered.
