Militia Belt Plate 

This is an original rectangular militia belt plate constructed of stamped brass with clipped corners, the plate retains its classic plain face design favored by local militia units before and during the Civil War period.

The reverse shows evidence of the original soldered brass hooks and studs, used for attachment to a leather belt. These simple plates were often privately purchased and worn by state or local militia prior to the widespread issue of standardized U.S. accoutrements.

A solid representative example of an early militia plate that reflects the transitional equipment carried by soldiers of the era.
