Shoulder Belt Plate – Depicting John Reynolds

From the collection of Chuck Hart – Shoulder sling plate circa 1865-1880 depicting John F. Reynolds, the commander of the 1st Corps killed on July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg. These were likely worn by Pennsylvania militia or veteran regiment. The plate measures 3 ½” by 2 ½” and is constructed of thin rolled brass crimped over a tinned iron backplate, with three thin brass wire loops soldered to the back. The bottom of Reynolds’ bust is stamped with the die maker’s name P.H. Jacobus. This is depicted in American Military Belt Plates by Michael J. O’Donnell & J. Duncan Campbell. A scarce example.

Comes housed in 12 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
