Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officer’s Sword – Inventory Number: SWO 195 / SOLD The model 1840 non-commissioned officer sword was intended for sergeants and were ceremonial in purpose, being used to convey rank and to signal movement in drills.  The sword could be used in a fight, but only as a weapon of last resort. Manufactured by Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. This sword lacks the Ames roll mark but is stamped “U.S. A.D.K. 1863.” A.D.K. stands for Andrew D. King, a government inspector for Ames Manufacturing from 1840-1865. The leather and brass scabbard is strong and sturdy with no flaking. The handle is tight, and the blade is bright with very light pitting. A very attractive Civil War sword.    Inventory Number: SWO 195 / SOLD
