Numbered Enfield Bayonet – Inventory Number: BAY 270 / SOLD During the course of the American Civil War, the Confederacy imported hundreds of thousands of British Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Muskets, with some estimates placing the total Confederate purchases between 300,000 and 400,000 guns. The beginning of those supplied featured engraved numbers on tbe socket as seen on this example. The bayonet is accompanied by its original leather scabbard in excellent condition. This is an early war pattern scabbard which dates to 1861-2 by the construction of the brass throat. This is correct for this bayonet. The bayonet has some rim damage from being improperly being removed from a gun and beating on the edge to dislodge, otherwise a wonderful early war example.   Inventory Number: BAY 270 / SOLD
