Original VI Corps Badge – First Division, Wartime “T-Bar” Pinback Example
A classic and desirable original VI Corps badge of the Greek cross form, representing the famed Sixth Corps of the Army of the Potomac. This wartime example features a rich red cloth inset denoting the 1st Division, set within a gilt brass frame that retains a pleasing, untouched patina.
The reverse is fitted with a correct period “T-bar” pin with open C-clasp, a hallmark of wartime manufacture and issue. The badge shows proper construction with applied cloth insert and hand-finished edges, consistent with mid-war production.
The VI Corps earned a distinguished reputation for hard marching and hard fighting, seeing heavy action at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, and the Shenandoah Valley. Known as the “Old Sixth Corps,” its troops were among the most reliable in the Union army, often thrown into the most critical points of the line.
