Description

Outstanding Civil War Era Bayonet Candelabra

Outstanding candelabra ingeniously constructed from socket bayonets and accented with striking brass bullet-form finials, creating an unmistakably patriotic and militaristic presentation piece. The elegant candle arms terminate in decorative brass mounts surmounted by miniature bullet-shaped toppers, lending the piece both refinement and character.

The tripod base is formed from original socket bayonets, their locking rings and mortise cuts still clearly visible, while the upper standards rise in a graceful cluster evocative of stacked arms in camp. The combination of burnished brass elements against the dark iron and steel surfaces produces exceptional visual contrast and tremendous display appeal.

These highly decorative veteran-made / postwar commemorative pieces embody the Victorian fascination with transforming relics of war into objects of beauty and remembrance. Examples incorporating authentic military components with such imaginative craftsmanship are scarce, this example having a substantial sculptural presence.

An exceptional conversation piece equally at home in an advanced Civil War collection, historic interior, or military museum.
