President Lincoln’s Funeral March – 1865

An historically significant piece of mourning sheet music titled “President Lincoln’s Funeral March,” composed by E. Mack and published by Lee & Walker of Philadelphia. The lithographed cover features a striking portrait of Abraham Lincoln, draped in the American flag with a mourning eagle above and two grieving figures below — a powerful symbol of national sorrow following Lincoln’s assassination in April 1865.

This example bears a faint period inscription at the top margin, “Maggie Donnely, May 1865,” marking its contemporary ownership during the nation’s time of mourning. The lower margin also includes the stamp of John F. Ellis Music Store, Washington, D.C., adding to its provenance.

Original mid-19th century printing on toned paper, with light age wear consistent with its age. A moving tribute to one of America’s most revered presidents and a poignant relic of national grief at the close of the Civil War.
