“Saber Brothers” – Civil War CDV of Two Union Cavalry Sergeants
Outstanding Civil War-era carte de visite depicting two armed Union cavalry sergeants posed together in full uniform. Both soldiers wear mounted service jackets with clearly visible sergeant’s chevrons and regulation cavalry sabers suspended from their waist belts. One soldier proudly rests his hand upon the shoulder of his comrade, creating a striking and personal wartime composition.
The image displays exceptional detail throughout, including cavalry shell jackets, saber belts, gauntlets, and period facial hair styles characteristic of veteran mounted troops. The soldier at right retains his Model 1860 cavalry saber prominently displayed, while both men project the confident bearing associated with seasoned Union cavalrymen during the Civil War.
The cdv photograph has been carefully mounted on later cardstock for stability and display. The reverse bears a modern notation reading “collector in UT,” likely referencing a previous collection history.
A highly attractive and displayable dual-image Civil War cavalry photograph with outstanding visual appeal.
