Scarce Robbins & Lawrence U.S. Model 1841 “Mississippi” Rifle – Dated 1850
Modified for the Civil War with Model 1855 Rear Sight Classic example of a U.S. Model 1841 percussion rifle, manufactured by Robbins & Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont, and boldly dated 1850 on both the lock and barrel. This .54 caliber “Mississippi Rifle” features its original brass furniture, including patchbox, trigger guard, buttplate, and barrel bands, all with a pleasing aged patina. Model 1855 rear sight, attests to its issuance during the Civil War era. The walnut stock retains field wear but retains sharp edges, visible inspection cartouches. The rifle is complete with its original brass accented trumpet-head ramrod and exhibits a rifled bore. A desirable variant of the Mississippi rifle, representing Robbins & Lawrence’s high-quality production and the needs of the U.S. military on the eve of the Civil War. A fine addition to any advanced Civil War or early U.S. martial arms collection.
