Sheble & Fisher Model 1840 Cavalry Saber
Excellent example of the Model 1840 “wristbreaker” cavalry saber made by Sheble & Fisher of Philadelphia. One side of the ricasso has the arched maker’s mark “SHEBLE & FISHER / PHILADA.” The blade has an even, light gray patina with a clean, nick-free edge. The saber features its massive, curved blade and brass three-branch guard. The leather-wrapped grip is dry and the wooden bass has a horizontal split resulting in some flaking and leather loss. The twisted wire binding is still present. The original leather washer is intact around the ricasso. The edge and point of the blade are in excellent condition. The blade retains is original factory luster and cross polishing marks at ricasso The sword is accompanied by its original steel scabbard with twin suspension rings, showing an attractive untouched patina consistent with age and service.
